Stephen King's The Stand (Boxed Set)

: :After a government-spawned 'superflu' wipes out more than 90 percent of the earth's population, the devastated survivors must decide whether to support or resist the advances of a mysterious stranger from way down South (heh-heh) who wishes to claim this new world order for himself. Although the six-hour length makes it nigh-impossible to digest in one sitting, this well-paced adaptation of Stephen King's apocalyptic magnum opus ranks among the best adaptations of the author's work, with strong performances from Gary Sinise, Miguel Ferrer, and especially Jamey Sheridan as a good-old-boy version of Old ...

starring: Ruby Dee, Gary Sinise, Rob Lowe, Molly Ringwald, Ossie Davis

Little Bill - Merry Christmas

: :Little Bill's creators--like those behind other cartoon series--could have strung colorful lights and twinkling ornaments around their character's TV apartment and called it Christmas, but instead they reached for the real deal: an honest representation of a 5-year-old's fuzzy grasp on the holiday spirit. One episode is dedicated to Little Bill's anguish when Alice the Great's flight is delayed on Christmas Eve. His crocodile tears as he and Alice sing their favorite carol by phone could melt the snow out of Cincinnati, where she's stuck, and the unpacking of the family's ornaments feels ...

Little Bill - Big Little Bill

:Description:Little Bill loves being five, but he can't wait to get bigger! In these four episodes, Little Bill doesn't gave to wait, as he takes some big steps towards growing up. 50 Minutes. :Five is the age when the rules of the grown-up world start to seem sensible and less about wrecking everybody's good time, as Big Little Bill reminds us. In four episodes, each one further reinforcing viewers' good taste for having picked up this four-star Bill Cosby creation, the bald, gap-toothed title tike tiptoes into double-digit-age territories. 'Big Kid' is short ...

Little Bill - What I Did at School

: :Nick Jr. television's Little Bill delivers all that viewers have come to expect from a Bill Cosby production: engaging story lines, intact family values, familiar predicaments, and the delicate balance of wit and wisdom. Whether he's at home or school, Little Bill's world is predictable, safe, and secure, and preschoolers will be drawn into it, lingering long enough to gain some valuable coping skills for their own world. What I Did at School contains four 12-minute episodes exploring the everyday issues of the classroom, such as the thrill of being snack helper and ...

Little Bill - Me and My Family

: :Gap-toothed 5-year-old Little Bill radiates with the sunny realism of his creator, Bill Cosby, but a Fat Albert redux this series is not. For starters, pull the strings on each episode's tidy package and you'll find more family than friends. Little Bill's New York apartment, not the local junkyard, is the nexus of his universe and where he works the kinks out of his kindergartner's world alongside his parents, older sister and brother, and the improbably named and ingenious Alice the Great, his great-grandmother. Inside, there's a whole lot of togetherness going on: ...

Little Bill - I Love Animals

: :Bill Cosby's animated young doppelganger visits the zoo, the pet store, and the responsibilities of pet care in this animal-centric installment of Cosby's gentle instructional series. In the first episode, Little Bill is impatient to see his favorite animals, the elephants, on his class trip, but he must learn patience since they are the last stop at the zoo. Inspired by his trip, in the second episode Little Bill gets permission from his parents to buy a pet but scales down his wishes from elephant to hamster. In the final two episodes, the ...

Cat People

: :Paul Schrader, the director of American Gigolo, brought a similar kind of sexual chic to this explicit horror movie. A remake of the beautiful, haunting 1942 Cat People, this version takes off from the same idea: that a woman (Nastassja Kinski), a member of a race of feline humans, will revert to her animalistic self when she has sex. Arriving to meet her brother (Malcolm McDowell) in New Orleans, she finds herself disturbed by his sexual presence. A zoo curator (John Heard) becomes fascinated by her, but he will discover that her kittenish ...

Intel's Core 2 Duo E6700 offers the best price-to-performance ratio we've seen in a desktop chip. For half the cost of AMD's top-of-the-line chip, you get identical if not superior performance and better power efficiency. AMD surprised us last year with its completely dominant dual-core chips, but Intel regains the crown with Core 2 Duo.

There are but two kinds of people in the world: Those captivated by Baz Luhrmann's heady, postmodernist musical romp Moulin Rouge--and everybody else. Oddly, the film's initial soundtrack release may have been the project's most traditional element, marketing a slate of pop-star contributions that gave listeners a sometimes-skewed perspective on its true musical charms. This follow-up corrects much of that oversight, offering original film versions of "Sparkling Diamonds" (the lavish, Nicole Kidman-performed medley of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" and "Material Girl"), Jim Broadbent's and Richard Roxburgh's loopy take on "Like a Virgin," as well as the lively Offenbach "Can Can" parody "The Pitch (Spectacular Spectacular)." It also pays homage to the efforts of composer Craig Armstrong, whose quietly compelling underscore often binds the film's other far-flung musical influences together, be they stately orchestral readings of Elton John's "Your Song," a dramatic arrangement for Kidman and Ewan MacGregor's original film duet of "Come What May," or his dark, melodramatic take on Queen's "The Show Must Go On." The first Moulin Rouge soundtrack collection flaunted the film's bold, cross-genre ambitions; this one chronicles its nakedly emotional heart and soul. --Jerry McCulley

It would be easy to dismiss Kelly Osbourne's musical ambitions based on 1) Her royally obnoxious behavior on the family's MTV reality series, 2) Her overly manufactured debut album, Shut Up, and 3) That voice, which up until now, sounded like cats on a chalkboard. But spare a moment for the bratty singer's follow-up effort, a remarkably faithful new-wave throwback, which generously references everyone from Duran Duran to Missing Persons. Producer Linda Perry not only effectively revives the dramatic sounds and melodies of the era but offers songs that perfectly suit Osbourne's, er, constrained vocal range. The resulting disc is full of guilty pleasures like "Uh Oh" and "Redlight," tunes that should strike a chord with anyone that still gets a thrill out of happening upon basic cable reruns of "Sixteen Candles." --Aidin Vaziri
