Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
Billed as the 'future of fitness' and hawked by numerous celebrities, Billy Blanks's Tae-Bo actually deserves much of the hype it's receiving. A mixture of boxing punches and martial arts kicks, Tae-Bo is fun and easy. One of the best elements of this four-tape set is that the first tape (which is 40 minutes long), Tae-Bo: Instructional, lays out the movements you need to successfully complete a workout. Once you've mastered the steps, you won't have to fast-forward through half the tape to get to the workout, nor will your workout be slowed down by the repeated lessons. After you feel comfortable with the movements (and they're really quite easy to follow; nothing too complicated to trip you up), you're ready to move on to Tae-Bo: Basics, a 27-minute workout (5 minutes of warm-up, 18 minutes of Tae-Bo, and 4 minutes of cool-down) that will have your heart pounding and your body sweating. Next comes Advanced, a 57-minute workout that will have your heart racing, pulse pounding, and sweat glands working overtime. There's razzmatazz on the moves, with slightly more complicated combinations that should be fairly easy to master if you've completed the first two tapes. This video seriously raises the bar on the difficulty factor.

In addition to the short warm-up, the cool-down, and the 30 minutes of Tae-Bo, Advanced Tae-Bo also includes 18 minutes of muscle-crunching floor work. You know you're in trouble when even the guys in the tape have trouble keeping up. Make sure you have truly mastered the first two tapes before attempting this one. The 8-Minute Workout is a highly compacted workout (actually 14 minutes long when you include warm-up and cool-down) for those days when you're too short on time for Basic or Advanced. While the 8-minute idea is compelling, it's not an adequate substitute for the longer workouts. Blanks, a seven-time World Martial Arts champion, is a superb instructor, providing encouragement and careful instruction (if you don't know by the end of the tape to hold in your stomach, that's no one's fault but your own). The only downside to these tapes is the less-than-exciting music. Not only is Tae-Bo great exercise for all levels, but the punches and kicks are wonderful for working out stress and aggression. This is the aerobics exercise video for people who are bored by aerobics. --Jenny Brown

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Billy Blanks 8 Minute Workout
I have really enjoyed this video. A team of us at work are doing the 8 minute workout during our safety meeting and then at lunch. I have mastered the 8 minute workout and will proceed at home doing the Basic. At work we will continue to do the 8 minute workout until the group is ready to move forward at lunch to the Basic. I would and have recommended this video to friends of mine. I have being doing the 8 minute workout for 5 weeks now and I can feel and see the results. TAEBO REALLY WORKS!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Awesome Kick Butt Workout
* I get stuck in a rut of routine workouts where I find myself not obtaining results for as much as I work out. I thought I would try kickboxing (something different) and had heard that this particular Tae Bo series (the orignal) of workouts was hard and challenging but great results for those that stick with it. I am addicted. These workouts are very easy to follow (basic counting; no fluff) but makes you work up a sweat and gets your heart rate up. I have noticed just doing the basic 27 minute workout three times a week for two weeks that my stomach is a lot more toned as well as my legs are starting to show definition. I am ready to graduate and try the advanced workout and mix it up. ...

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The best workout ever!
I bought this first set of tae-bo when it just came out in 2000, one of my friends who was practicing martial arts recommended it. I was fairely active and athletic, but after my first pregnancy it was so hard to get back in shape. I was struggling for a few years, trying walking, jogging, gym, classes, everything with minor results. And then I started doing tae-bo. It was not easy, but after a month or so of doing basic I switched to advanced. My body had never looked better, I never felt better about myself! I was simply addicted to this workout! I never received so many compliments in my entire life! I should say, at about the same time I started doing yoga 2-3 times a week. It was a great work out balance. All that happened almost 7 years ago. Now, every time, when I need to shed a few pounds, I know where to go to, not to the gym, but to my bookshelf, where I keep a good collection of Tae-Bo tapes. They never let me down, never! And it's true, you can see results after 2-3 workouts only. Whether you want to lose weight or get your body toned and muscles more defined, this one is the best workout!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Tae Bo Workouts
* I have to say how wonderful, motivational and challenging tae bo workouts are. In 2 months I've lost 32 pounds, I do tae bo 6 times per week for about 3 months now. I must share the toning results. I've never thought there were actually muscles under the fat in my body after losing 32 pounds. I can see a huge diference on the way I feel, my energy, I feel more confident. I know if I keep doing tae bo I can get to my goal.

If you're determined to lose weight and want to make the effort then tae bo is for you. I'm kind of addicted to it I have to admit it. But I enjoy doing it and seing the results.

Billy also is a great motivation his words of wisdom and his team behind him makes it a fun workout.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - AWESOME!
I love tae-bo! Billy Blanks is awesome and Tae-bo is fun and easy to use. This dvd is great because it has the different workouts so you can choose what level of difficulty you want. The 8 minute workout is also nice because it's quick enough to do if you only have a few minutes, but effective enough to get your heart pumping and let you feel like you've actually worked out, even if it's only for 8 minutes! I think anyone can do taebo-whether you are super-fit or out of shape. And if you can't quite do all of the moves in the workouts, Billy will show you ways to make them easier. Give Tae-bo a chance! I bet you'll like it!

Intel's Core 2 Duo E6700 offers the best price-to-performance ratio we've seen in a desktop chip. For half the cost of AMD's top-of-the-line chip, you get identical if not superior performance and better power efficiency. AMD surprised us last year with its completely dominant dual-core chips, but Intel regains the crown with Core 2 Duo.

You can say this about D.E.B.S.: director Angela Robinson’s 2005 feature isn’t very good, but it is surprisingly entertaining. The premise, which bears a passing resemblance to any number of previous films (from Heathers and Clueless to Charlie’s Angels and the Austin Powers franchise), involves a secret government agency recruiting young women as spies, based on their smarts, their ability to lie convincingly, and the fact that they look fetching in ultra-miniskirts. Four of the D.E.B.S. are then charged with collaring "criminal mastermind" Lucy Diamond (Jordana Brewster), who has returned to the States after hatching all manner of nefarious plots overseas. Then comes the twist: Diamond is gay, and one of our heroines, Amy Bradshaw (Sara Foster), unexpectedly finds herself falling in love with her. Out goes the espionage element; in comes the love story, and therein lies the surprise, as this burgeoning lesbian relationship is handled with unexpected sympathy, even tenderness. Sure, the acting, even by veteran grownups like Holland Taylor and Michael Clarke Duncan, is almost uniformly lame, and the script is silly; overall, the film would have to put on considerable weight to even be considered frothy. Still, D.E.B.S. isn’t a bad way to kill a couple of hours. DVD bonus features include a making-of featurette and commentary by Robinson and the cast. --Sam Graham

The teaming of Johnny Knoxville (Jackass: The Movie) and Seann William Scott (Dude, Where's My Car?) as well as the presence of the '70s-flavored car chases that were a specialty of the TV series guarantees that The Dukes of Hazzard will be even more lowbrow than the CBS TV series (1979-85) that inspired it. However, this brain-damaging comedy is more "rehash" than "remake," as good ol' Georgiaboys Luke Duke (Knoxville) and his cousin Bo (Scott) are frequently upstaged bythe General Lee, the Confederate-flagged '69 Charger that they drive, jump, race, and fly in as they smuggle moonshine for their Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson). Meanwhile, cousin Daisy Duke (Jessica Simpson) is reliably available to model her short-shorts (aka "Daisy Dukes") and awesome figure (and let's face it, Simpson's talents pretty much begin and end right there), while corrupt honcho Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds, who should know better) recruits a local NASCAR star to advance his wily scheme of converting Hazzard County into a strip mine. Director Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers) manages to mine some good-natured humor from the movie's oval-track detour and a few colorful supporting players (notably Kevin Hefferman as the Duke's pal Sheev). Otherwise, consider yourself warned: The Dukes of Hazzard is shameless Hollywood product at its most forgettable, trafficking in shameless white, rural Southern stereotypes. If you can make itto the end, there's a blooper reel to reward your endurance. --Jeff Shannon

DVD features
Yes, the unrated edition of The Dukes of Hazzard has nudity... but no, it's not of Jessica Simpson, but topless sorority girls. There are also two sets--"PG-13" and "unrated"--of deleted scenes and bloopers. The four minutes of unrated deleted scenes (supplementing the 25 minutes of "PG-13" deleted scenes) include more sorority girls and a menage à trois for Johnny Knoxville . The five minutes of unrated bloopers (the same amount as the "PG-13" bloopers) feature a few more girls but mostly bad language. Featurettes discuss the Daisy Duke short shorts (and show how you can make your own), car stunts, and the making of the movie (narrated by a cast member of the original TV series). --David Horiuchi
